EV reliability the truth
In a recent revelation, one of the UK’s premier breakdown service providers, Start Rescue, has dispelled the persistent myth surrounding EV reliability (electric vehicles). Contrary to popular belief, their data suggests that EVs are significantly less likely to require roadside assistance compared to their traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) counterparts. According to their findings, EVs boast a staggering 59% decrease in breakdown call-outs when juxtaposed with petrol or diesel vehicles. What’s more, while flat batteries still remain a common issue for EVs, they account for a lesser percentage (24%) of call-outs compared to the nearly 30% observed in ICE cars.
Lee Puffett, the Managing Director of Start Rescue, emphasised,
“Our figures demonstrate that electric cars, ranging from newly minted to a decade old, exhibit a remarkable 59% decrease in breakdown occurrences compared to ICE cars.”
Puffett further added,
“This revelation might come as a surprise to some motorists, but with the burgeoning presence of over a million EVs navigating the UK’s roads, it underscores the viability of choosing an EV with confidence, knowing that the likelihood of being stranded at the roadside is substantially reduced.”
However, Puffett also addressed a prevalent misconception hindering the widespread adoption of EVs:
“The barrier to embracing EVs, for many prospective buyers transitioning from ICE vehicles, is often more psychological than factual.”
He elucidated,
“Contrary to popular belief, EV batteries do not mirror the limited longevity of conventional mobile phone or laptop batteries. Instead, they retain a significantly higher charge capacity, ensuring ample driving range. Nevertheless, it’s imperative to exercise proper care for the 12-volt battery to mitigate one of the most recurrent causes of call-outs.”
In light of these revelations, businesses contemplating embarking on their EV journey should find solace in the robust data presented by Start Rescue. The statistics not only debunk the prevalent myth surrounding EV reliability but also underscore the practicality and dependability of electric vehicles in today’s automotive landscape.
